Matthias Deutschmann was born in Rodolfswert, Yugoslavia. At age 9, Matthias and his family had to leave Yugoslavia and settled in Krieglach, Austria. At 14, Matthias trained as a Cabinet Maker and worked in Krieglach.
He married Margarete in February 1964. With their two baby daughters, Doris and Ilse, they came to Vancouver, Canada in 1967 for adventure and to start a new life. Kirk, their son, was born three years later.
Matthias worked in the construction industry as a finishing carpenter, working in many of the high rise buildings in downtown Vancouver. On retirement, Matthias and Margarete moved to Princeton, BC, where they enjoyed the quiet life. Matthias continued to enjoy many woodworking hobbies such as Marquetry, carvings, making furniture, and fashioning Old West pistols and rifles out of a variety of contrasting woods.
He died at Ridgewood Lodge, Princeton, BC, after a lengthy illness.
