She was born Isabel Pearl Saunders in Camrose, Alberta, the daughter of John David Saunders, and was educated there and in Princeton, British Columbia.
Victoria (CP) – Isabel Dawson, a former Social Credit cabinet minister, died Friday of cancer after a three month illness. She was 64. Mrs. Dawson had served two terms in the BC legislature as the member for Mackenzie and was a minister without portfolio in former premier W.A.C Bennett’s cabinet until she was defeated in the 1972 election. After her husband died eight years ago, Mrs. Dawson moved to Victoria from Powell River and took a degree in psychology at the University of Victoria. She later added a master of science in germatology from the University of Oregon, using BC services for the elderly as her thesis material. As a member of the legislature, she specialized in problems of the elderly and Native Indians. Born in Camrose, Alberta she was first elected to the BC legislature in 1966 and was re-elected in 1969
