Ceccon, Emilio

Emilio Ceccon was born in Italy in 1899.  He married Mira Maria Santolin in 1925. In 1927, Emilio emigrated to Canada to seek employment. He was very fortunate to be hired by the Canadian Pacific Railway. This proved to be a lifelong position with the company. While Emilio was away, Mira had their first son, Rolando, in Italy in 1928. In 1930 Emilio returned to Italy to bring his young family to Canada. They landed in Montreal and travelled across Canada to Vancouver via Canadian Pacific Railway.  Clarence Bruno was born on January 18, 1934 in Coalmont. Leslie was  born on May 23, 1935. In 1937 the family moved to Kurton, two stations east of Osprey Lake. In 1940 the family moved to Adra, home of the rattlesnakes! Adra is east of Penticton on the Kettle
Valley Railroad. They lived there for one long year.  The family moved to Penticton in 1942 so the children could attend school. Emilio stayed and worked at Adra for two more years.  Later on Emilio was transferred to Allenby and the family remained in Penticton for a short time.  In April of 1944 they all moved to Allenby.  In 1950 Emilio transferred to the main line of the Canadian
Pacific Railroad in Princeton. All the family then moved to Princeton. His job took him on special work trains (snowplows, etc.) as far east as Penticton and west as Hope on the Coquihalla.  Emilio was only to enjoy eight years of retirement as he passed away in June of 1974 from complications of an operation which he was having to correct partial paralysis caused by a stroke.  He died June 23, 1974, at the age of 75. He had been in Princeton for 50 years having retired from C.P. Railroad after 37 years of service. Sim. Sp. July 10, 1974 Ceccon, Emilio (Mira)
