Katie Ann (Coffers) Frembd/ Ann Katie/ Annie (1858-1947)
Frederick Frembd was born in Germany on May 12, 1848. He married Katie Coffers of St. Paul-Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA in Kamloops, BC. He died on December 4, 1918 in Princeton, BC.
In 1866, he went to England, worked as a baker. In 1868, he sailed as crew aboard sailboat freighter. Later went by train to San Francisco. Eventually to Portland, Seattle and Bellingham. Here, he was a partner in a sawmill with Blunden. in 1885, he travelled by snowshoe with Mr. Blunden, Joe Costillion and Johnny Norman landing in Granite Creek in April of that year. In 1894, he took Crown grant land at head of Otter Lake. [unknown source]
F. Fremdb is listed in Henderson’s BC Gazetteer and Directory for 1900-1901, as a rancher at Granite Creek. However, they were likely at Otter Valley as, in 1902, the family was living at Otter Valley.
He applied to purchase 40 acres of crown land at Otter Valley for pasturing purposes in 1904. F.W. Groves and J. Snowden were running the lines for the Jackson ranch but the water was too high at the Frembd Ranch in April 1904.
He was elected School Trustee (and secretary) to establish school at Tulameen at Otter Flat Hotel April 8, 1908. Eighteen students were to start the new will school year.
