Alexander Frew was born in Whittlets, Scotland on September 28, 1922. He was the son of William Frew and Idabell (McWhitter) Frew. He married Brenda Griffin in March 1943 in Lancing, Sussex, England. He died on June 13, 1981 (automobile accident on Coalmont Road). At the time of his death, he was living in Tulameen, BC.
He came to Blakeburn in 1930 with his family. He played hockey for the Blakeburn Junior Hockey team (1937). He attended the Similkameen Schools Track Meet at Hedley in May 1938, winning first place in the broad jump and fourth place in the 100 yard dash.
Frew enlisted in 1940 and went overseas that same year, serving in the Royal Canadian Artillery,light anti-aircraft. Gunner A. Frew was on the list to receive cigarettes from the /Elk’s Overseas Cigarette Fund/Elk’s Smoke Fund July 1941. December 1942 – Gunner A. Frew 16th Canadian Light Anti-aircraft Battery; 3rd Canadian Light Anti-Aircraft Regiment.
After WWII, Frew worked construction jobs in southern BC for twenty-five years. He retired to Tulameen and worked for the village for short time.
He is buried in the Tulameen Cemetery (next to his father, William).
