Spotlight Sept. 23, 1964. Born Lower Nicola Valley 1878 and passed Sept 18, 1964 at the age of 86. He moved with his family to Granite Creek 1887 when the gold rush was on (his father was Gold Commissioner). He moved to Princeton, became building contractor. At age of 18 staked Silver Hill Mine. Engaged in building cyanide tanks and buildings in Boundary country. Built first two sections of Princeton Hospital in 1911. Married a nurse who came to work there. One of founders of Amber Ski Club. He was very well known as a skier. He was nicknamed Pop for his work with kids at the Amber Ski Hill. Two sons, Bert and Bill, members 1948 Canadian Winter Olympic Ski Team. Mrs. Irwin was the beloved Mama (Mom) Irwin who fed the skiers, dried the little ones’ tears and bandaged the cuts. The development of the ski hill must be credited to him. He was the father of Amber Ski Hill.
