Eleanor M. (Edward) Swanson
Peter Swanson was born on January 20, 1864 in Ronneby, Sweden. He married Eleanor Edward around 1903 in Seatlle, Washington, USA. He died on July 22, 1914 in Seattle, Washington.
Peter Swanson came to Princeton around 1906 from Midway, BC. Along with Al Manly, he bought the Jackson House from J.H. Jackson in 1906. He renamed the hotel ‘The Great Northern’ after the Railway then being built in the Similkameen. Swanson bought Manly out in 1910, became sole proprietor, an annex had been built to the original building. On March 1, 1912 fire destroyed the building which was a landmark. Loss was $17, 000.
Hotel was rebuilt by Pete Swanson and Alex Broomfield (Swanson & Broomfield Co.). The hotel received its license in November 1912 and opened on December 1, 1912. Swanson became ill in March of 1914 and Dr. Campbell suggested he return to Washington state for treatment.
According to Ernie Garrison, Swanson died about now and Mrs. Swanson sold out to Broomfield who became sole proprietor.
