Mrs. Susan Louisa Allison came to the Similkameen as a bride in 1868, joining Mr. Allison, who had taken up land five years before. She was the first white woman settler in the Similkameen. Her family moved to a house on the flat in 1920. She died the 1st of February, 1937 at age 92. She was born in Ceylon and educated in England and the family came to Hope BC in 1860. It was in Hope that she met Mr. Allison and they were married in 1868. Soon after, they crossed the Hope trail, and made their home just below the forks on the Tulameen and Similkameen Rivers. With the exception of some years in the Okanagan Valley, Mrs. Allison remained in the Similkameen till 1928 when she went to Vancouver to live. She died in 1937 and was buried beside her husband at the Allison cemetary at the base of Castle Rock.
