Fender, John Tomas “Jack”
Jane (Gilbertson) Fender
John “Jack” Fender was born on December 24, 1884 in Jefferson City, North Carolina. He married Jane Gilbertson. He died at home on Lime Street on November 18, 1958 in Princeton.
Fender came to Canada in 1912; and, to BC in 1928.
He was a member of the Princeton Elks (1940). He was on the executive of the Princeton and District Fish, Game and Forest Protective Association (1941).
He was a garage mechanic – retired around 1945. Fire destroyed the Home Oil and Gas Station on Bridge Street in 1941, and Jack Fender built a new garage – Fender Garage – at that location in April and May 1942. It was the first building built in Princeton to be able to withstand air raids. In July 1945, Fender Garage was taken over by Alex. Reid and Lorne Allin and became Riverside Motors.
He owned a house (that was later occupied by Tug Wilson) on Lime Street.
