Hans Freding was born in Norway on March 17, 1886. He immigrated to America in 1910, coming to Princeton to join his brother Elias (1884-1958).
In 1912, Hans sent to Norway for his fiancee, Astrid Peterson. She arrived here and three days later they were married on June 20, 1912.
Their oldest son, Gordon was born April 6, 1913; and Karl was born on November 19, 1916.
Hans Freding became a naturalized citizen in October 1914.
They left the area and moved to Cut Bank, Montana, where Helen was born on February 16, 1918.
They moved back to Princeton in 1919 and Astrid “Esther” was born September 24, 1921.
In October 1937, he attended (with Astrid Freding) an outing of the local fox breeders at Silver Lake Fur Farm (C.W. Albrecht) at Nicola Lake, BC. Hans Freding was the president of the Lower Similkameen Fox Breeders Association.
He was an inaugural member of the Princeton Grasshopper Control Area Committee (1938).
In January 1939, he noted (Similkameen Star) that he and Jim Beatty were the only two left of the crew that worked on the original Hope-Princeton road building. He wondered if he would see it finished before he passed.
Donated $2.00 to the “Star Fund” – a fund organized by the Princeton Board of Trade to send copies of the Similkameen Star to men serving at the front (1944).
He was a Similkameen Star subscriber December 1944 – 1945 and with Elias in June 1947.
He died on September 26, 1969, in the Princeton General Hospital.
