William Oxley was born on February 25, 1885 in Rawmarsh, Yorkshire, England. William was trained as a mining engineer in Yorkshire and arrived in Canada with his brother and sister in 1906. He met his future wife, Susannah Jane Wilkinson while he was in Phoenix, BC. William had a job as a brakeman at a mine in Phoenix. He was also the licensed projectionist for the new cinema and manager of the winter club there. He was only 23 at the time. William and Susannah married on December 25, 1910 in the Dominion Hotel in Phoenix. Three of their six children were born in Phoenix. During WWI they moved to Burnaby and built a house on McKay Ave. (now Metrotown). Their fourth child was born there. 1919-1920 they moved back to the Interior where William took a job as an engineer at Blakeburn. The family lived for many years in Coalmont before moving up the mountain to Blakeburn. They had six children: David Oxley (1911-2003), Alice Kathleen Oxley (1913-1995), Jean Oxley (1915-2009), Lillie (Lily) Oxley Redmile (1917-2009), Margaret Merica “Peggy” Oxley (1919-2001), Suzanne Oxley (1922-2004). William Oxley died on March 14, 1974 in Vancouver, BC.
