Copp, William Harvey, Captain
Mrs. ( ) Copp
Daughter: Mrs. Ada Brown
Sons: Wallace, Harvey
Captain William Copp was born around 1843 in Waterside, New Brunswick. He died in Vancouver on April 1, 1928.
Captain William Scott “was one of Princeton’s boldest spirits and leading lights” according to his obituary in the Princeton Star (April 28, 1928).
After a lifetime at sea, he was (with Captain Scott) part of the Anglo American Placer Company which ventured a huge fortune at Ashnola Flats at the mouth of the Whipsaw around 1895. The venture “proved to be only an empty bubble.” They built a white house that was still standing in 1938.
He began construction on a hotel (1895) but was unable to complete it. This building became the Garrison Stable (1928).
