Dawn Johnson, a long-time Princeton resident, is probably best-known as a local news reporter. She spent many years in that role at the weekly local newspaper, the Similkameen Spotlight. After she left that media outlet, and was encouraged by many area residents, Johnson, along with her daughter, Sharon, established the Similkameen News Leader in 1997. Although the Johnsons sold their interests in that weekly newspaper in 2004, Dawn stayed on as a staff reporter and feature writer until the paper ceased publication in 2016. Johnson is an Elder of the Upper Similkameen Indian Band and has remained active in the community. She currently (2021) sits on the Board of Directors for the Princeton Museum Society. She was also involved with the Fall Fair society for over 30 years.
