Sam Manring was born on August 8, 1876, in Joplin, Missouri. He married Nellie Simpson. He died on May 15, 1955, at Kelowna General Hospital. At the time of his death, he was living in Summerland, BC.
Sam and Nellie came to the Osprey Lake area in 1925, with their sons, Jord and William, and their daughter-in-law, Pearl.
They had previously been engaged in ranching in the state of Washington.
They purchased the Clyde Hales ranch and in 1927, were living in the Tom and Kate Harvey home, above Chain Lake.
According to Clare (Sellers) Eaton, in Princeton Our Valley, Sam and Nellie had a place “two miles up a jeep road above the Gold brothers.” They had a fox farm and in 1944, they moved to Allenby, returning to Five Mile in 1949.
