Marcotte, Louis Napoleon

Born on December 25, 1884 in Perkinsfield, Ontario of French-Canadian extraction. He was an experienced hotel man. He was a part owner of the rebuilt Granite Creek Hotel in 1910 and sold his interest to Herbert Goodison of Merritt. In 1911, he partnered with J.T. Ryan, and built the Coalmont Hotel which was sold to D.P. (Gerry) Brown in 1930. On September 6, 1911, he married Myrtle Schisler at her family home in Princeton. Myrtle later died giving birth to their daughter also named Myrtle. Little Myrtle stayed with her grandparents in Princeton while Louis went back to Coalmont to run the hotel. She married Fred Parkes. On December 1, 1921, Louis married Mary Faulds in Vancouver, B.C. He secured the contract for 200,000 ft. of mining timber for the Coal Co. operating near here. Spring 1920 Sim* July 20, 1948. He died at the age of 63 on July 5, 1948 when a mine tunnel collapsed on him in the Tulameen area. He was buried in the Princeton cemetery beside his first wife. Mrs. Mary Marcotte still received mail at Coalmont in 1962.
