Susannah Jane Wilkinson was born September 1, 1888 in Birkenhead, Cheshire, (or Barrow-in-Furness, Lancashire) England. Her parents were Richard and Susannah Jane Wilkinson. She became a nurse and went to South Africa with her eldest sister, Alice and Alice’s husband John (Jack) Pickthall. From South Africa they came to British Columbia and first went to Phoenix where Susannah met William Oxley. William and Susannah married on Christmas day in the Dominion Hotel in 1910. During the war they moved to Burnaby and built a house on McKay Avenue (now Metrotown). 1919-1920 – Mining began again at Copper Mountain and the family moved back into the Interior. As Blakeburn became a big mining interest, William took a position as an engineer and the family moved to Coalmont. Later they lived in Blakeburn. They had six children: David (1911-2003), Alice Kathleen (1913-1995), Jean (1915-2009), Lillie (Lily) Redmile (1917-2009), Margaret Merica “Peggy” (1919-2001), Suzanne (1922-2004). Susannah died on July 2, 1935 in Princeton, B.C. She is buried at the Granite Creek Cemetery.
