Allen, Orrin
Bertha (Gaupholm) Allen
Ora Charlotte (Allen) Lundy
Orrin Allen was born around 1870 in Wisconsin, USA. He married Bertha Gaupholm on March 24, 1914 in Beaudette, Minnesota. He died on October 6, 1914 in Oroville, Washington, USA, of complications following surgery for appendicitis. His funeral in Princeton (October 1917) was “largely attended.”
He came to Princeton around 1910, having lived in Blairmore, AB, and Fernie, BC.
He purchased the lot and barbershop owned by E.O. DeLong in April 1912 and planned to erect a large building to be used as a pool room and tobacco emporium. The Princeton Billiard Room opened in late April 1912. The first advertisement for his business appeared in the Similkameen Star on October 3, 1913. He not only sold tobacco and had a billiard room, he also had a bath facility and was a barber shop.
The “Allen’s Billiard Room” was sold sometime prior to 1918 to Harry Evans (proprietor) and “Mate” Irwin (barber).
Bertha Allen continued to live in Princeton after her husband’s death (September 1917). She married G. Geddes Lyall (of Princeton Book and Drug Store) in June 1918.
