Gladys Allison and her twin sister, Grace (1907-1907) were born on November 22, 1907, in Princeton, BC. She married David Archibald on June 15, 1930, in Penticton, BC. At the time of their marriage, they were both living in Princeton, BC. Gladys died after 2007 (when she was interviewed by June Webb as she was about to turn 100 in November 2007).
When she was less than two years old, her mother (Isabel Allison) died at the King Edward Memorial Sanatorium (Tranquille) in Kamloops. Gladys was raised by her maternal grandparents, William and Sarah Martin.
In 1918, she contracted influenza and was in the Princeton General Hospital from November 1918 to March 1919 (The Times (Clearwater), November 26, 2007).
After their marriage (1930), Gladys and Dave Archibald lived in a small house at One Mile until around 1940 when they moved to Clearwater. where they homesteaded in Upper Clearwater for 50 years.
In August 1934, she invited Sarah Martin (the woman who raised her) and her maternal grandmother, Susan Allison. Mrs. Allison, at 90, “celebrated the occasion with a ride in – a wheelbarrow!”
Gladys Archibald wrote at least two books of poetry.
