Henry Avery, Jr., was born August 14th, 1887 at Spokane Falls, Washington, USA. His father was born in Junetown, Ontario, of United Empire Loyalist parentage. The family worked westward, living in Michigan, Utah, and Montana at different times, then settled in Spokane, Washington. After the big fire, they came to Nelson in 1891.
Using a bicycle, Henry beat the stage from Merritt to the first stopping place on the way to Princeton in 1908. He met and married Eliza Jane Carson on March 24, 1910. At the time of his marriage, Henry Harrison Avery, Jr. was a real estate broker. Eliza Jane was the daughter of Kit Carson, a well known pioneer of the province. There is a statue in North Vancouver of him. The Carson family home was Pavilion Ranch.
Avery played on the Princeton Lacrosse Team in 1914 and he was on one of Princeton’s first good baseball teams.
Henry Harris Avery, Jr. joined the International Order of Oddfellows ( IOOF) #52 on July 24, 1941 at the age of 53. His occupation at that time was an insurance agent.
Henry Harrison Avery, Jr. was one of the first Directors of the Hospital (appointed. 1913).
On October 16, 1914, with E.S. Silcox, took over the firm of McLean and Russell.
He was listed in the Directory for 1946: Avery & Avery, H.H. and E.J.
