Brown, David Paterson “Gerry”
Elizabeth “Lizzie” (McKay-Miller) Brown
Gerry Brown was born in Edinburgh, Scotland, on December 20, 1881. He was a resident of Coalmont and vicinity for about 50 years and was a member of the Princeton Branch No. 56 of the Canadian Legion.
He was a veteran of World War I and served from 1914 to 1918 with the Canadian Expeditionary Force in France and Belgium.
He became the owner of the Coalmont Hotel in 1930. On July 14, 1930, he married Elizabeth “Lizzie” Mckay Miller in Blakeburn, BC. After thirty years as a hotel owner, he and his wife retired. He suffered a heart attack and died one week later at the age of 78 on August 6, 1960. Jerry and Lizzie’s son, David, went on to become Mayor of Princeton in the 1970s.
