Wicker suitcase
Wicker suitcase with leather bound handles. Tan colored with 2 front brass hasps and front lock. Case appears to be made of cardboard, with a woven wicker outer shell and a paper lining inside. Case is not in good condition, lid is very ripped inside. Belonged to donors father Kit (Christopher) Summers. According to museum archives, Kit was born around 1870 in England, and died in 1951. Owned the ‘bunch grass field’ (pasture land) about twenty miles from Princeton on Summers Creek, the creek being named after him. He raised cattle and other farm animals and sold hay. Still resided there with his wife in the early 40’s. Owned the Similkameen Hotel on Vermilion Avenue across from the school, it was burned to the ground in 1930.
Written note found inside suitcase states:- Wicker suitcase donated by Ada Currie. Case belongs to Mrs Ellen Summers, Mrs Curries mother. Came to Princeton with Mrs Summers in 1912. So discrepancy noted between museum card and note in suitcase – but did belong to the Summers Family. Ellen Christena (Huey) Summers was born on January 7, 1881 in Portland, Oregon.
