Howard Aldous was born in BC on August 25, 1888.
HIs parents were living in New Westminster in 1891 and perhaps it was an oversight but Howard is not recorded as living with them.
He attended school in Nelson in 1899 and was still in Nelson in June 1900.
He came with his parents to Princeton around 1900 and his name appears in the 1901 Canada Census (Princeton).
In November 1900, his parents invited Princeton’s young people to a dance and the step-dancing of Howard Aldous was one “of the most pleasing events of the evening.” He was also a musician and played at an “impromptu dance” in December 1901.
In July 1903, he won the boy’s race at the Dominion Day celebrations and in September 1903, the Similkameen Star reported that he and Jack Budd were driving horses to the coast over the Hope Trail when a mishap at Nine-Mile delayed their journey a day or so. Howard would have been around 15 years old.
He was attending Princeton School in June 1904 and was promoted from Junior to Senior IV reader.
In September 1904, he returned from Vancouver in the company of Gus Hewat. Presumably he was visiting his mother, Mary Jane Aldous, in Vancouver.
In 1929, Mrs. H.W. Aldous and Dorothy returned to Princeton from a Vancouver holiday.
