Nicholas “Nick” Kraetor was born May 7, 1889, in the Bukovina province of Rumania. He married Mary Gregory. He died on December 14, 1951, at home in Princeton.
According to his obituary published in The Similkameen Star (October, 18, 1951, page 1), he came to Princeton with his family in 1930. He was employed as a coal miner.
In 1935, he was denied relief for refusing to report for work. He arrested and charged along with eight others under “the vagrancy section of the Code 238” and was sentenced to three months hard labour at Oakalla Prison Farm in Burnaby.
He was the chairman of the Princeton branch of the Ukrainian Canadian Association and was a supporter of the local Canadian Aid to Russia fund.
