Barbie Doll – Francie, with bendable knee joint. Probably a Hair Happenin’s Francie. States Made by Mattel, US Patented, Patent pending. 1966. Made in Japan. Dressed in a blue dress with white crochet detail at the arms and waist. Label inside dress states Francie, Mattel, 1966. Barbie and family were made in Japan from 1959-1972. Francie’s decade-long run began with a straight leg model (1966-1968) and continued with a “bend leg” doll (1966-1967). “Twist ‘N Turn” dolls were issued beginning in 1967, and in the 1970s, several hair-related variations were issued: “Hair Happenin’s Francie” in 1970-1972. Was marketed as Barbies modern cousin.
