Lorne Allin was born on February 19, 1898, in Vernon, Ontario. He married Myrtle Callendar in January 1922. They had one son, James William Allin, in 1923, and shortly after, she died from typhoid fever. He then married Myrtle’s younger sister, Sarah Callendar, in November 1929. He died on April 18,1989 at the Princeton General Hospital and is buried in the Princeton Cemetery. His occupation on his death registration is foreman – mechanic for the municipality of Princeton.
In 1917, Allin joined the Royal Canadian Navy (VR5206) and trained as a Steam Engineer. After his discharge in 1919, he apprenticed with Stoughton Motors (Saskatchewan) as an auto mechanic.
He came to Princeton in 1935 and joined Burr Motors as a mechanic. He remained employed there until he enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1940. He served as an aero engine mechanic.
When he returned to Princeton after his discharge in 1945, he and Alexander “Alex” Reid purchased Fender’s Garage and renamed the business “Riverside Motors.” They sold to the Gibson Brothers around 1950.
Allin worked at the Granby mine, Princeton Power Plant, and the Village of Princeton. He was the Stipendiary Magistrate in the Princeton court.
He was a member of the Princeton International Order of Odd Fellows.
