At the end of Grade 9, (June 1945), Frank Antonich competed for the Novice Cup at the Similkameen Valley Mine Safety Association’s annual first aid competitions. The following year, June 1946, the Princeton team (Frank Antonich, J. Ray, R. Miller, J. Cunliffe, Walter Antonich) won third competing for the Granby Cup (boys or girls under 15) at the Princeton Athletic Park (across the river from town beside the curling rink). Antonich captained the Princeton team and won the cup in June 1947. That same year, he was awarded a senior first aid voucher (May 1947). Although the Similkameen Star doesn’t mention Antonich in any further mine safety competitions, Antonich achieved a 4th and After First Aid Label in May 1951.
Frank Antonich did well academically as well and was presented with a senior academic crest at the graduation ceremonies at the Princeton High School Auditorium on May 31, 1946. He was again presented with an academic crest when he made the Honor Roll in June 1947.
He also won $25.00 in a province-wide essay contest (August 1947), having written about coal mining.
