Brown, David
David Brown – is the son of the former Coalmont Hotel owner Jerry Brown. He was born in Princeton. He came on the Princeton scene at the same time that Newmont Mines Limited (Similkameen Mine) opened.
Things began to happen and Brown, with his strength in accountancy, set the pace for a decade of growth. Because of health reasons Brown decided not to run in 1974 and Eric Jacobson, another native son, served one year, 1974, as Mayor. Jacobson served a total of 12 years on Council and his practical approach to local politics helped save thousands of dollars in the public works field for Princeton.
David Brown returned to politics in 1975 and stayed there until 1979. He served a total of 10 years, 6 as Mayor and Regional Director for Princeton, Trustee of the Princeton Hospital and Director of the Okanagan-Simllkameen Hospital Board.
Brown was In office during Princeton’s greatest growth period. In a short period he helped in the construction of the Civic Centre, the construction of the new Princeton and District Arena, the new Fire Hall, the paving of the Princeton Airport and countless other less, but important projects. One of his last efforts in 1979 was to make sure the by-law for the upgrading of the Princeton water system, at a cost in excess of $600,000, was passed.
After a long and courageous struggle with Parkinson’s Disease, David passed away peacefully in Princeton, BC.
