Sonja Maria Antonia Pypers was born to Johanus (John) and Engelina (Lina) Pypers in Haarlem, Netherlands. Sonja and her family Johan, Lina, and younger brother Paul, immigrated to Canada in 1954 on a military convoy ship.
Sonja married Clayton Walls and had four children. She had a full-time job raising their four boys Terry, Darryl, Marvin, and Scott. She lived in and around Strathmore learning the country life and during this time she was able to pursue a short modelling and photography career.
Sonja’s parents passed in 1990, and she and Clayton went their separate ways. She moved to Calgary and met Dale Cundy and they were married in 1998 on the beach in Celista BC. Sailing the lakes, building houses, and singing at the local theatre and church were her favourite pastimes. Her dogs, garden, and neighbours kept her busy and she loved her life in the rural of Shuswap Lake, making many good friends along the way.
The dreadful path down the dementia road eventually led Dale and Sonja to the Parkdale Place Housing Society Residence in Summerland. Dales’ family was close by in Summerland. Here again, Sonja made many many friends but unfortunately, the dementia had really taken hold by then.
