John Demuth was born on June 15, 1871 in Erfurt, Germany. He died in Princeton, BC, on July 16, 1932.
He married Caroline Back, of Penticton, on April 17, 1913 in Vancouver, BC. At the time of his marriage in 1913, he was a railroad superintendent living in Grand Forks, BC.
At the time of his death, he was survived by Caroline Demuth, and five children. Selma DeMuth (New York); Frederick DeMuth (New York); Dr. Otto Demuth (Vancouver); Dr. Lillian Demuth (New York); Mrs. M. Kirkwood (Los Angeles); Mrs. C. Jeffer (New York).
DeMuth Logging Company bought Paddy Riley’s property and left him a lot where he lived in his little cabin the rest of his life.
When Mr. Demuth passed on he willed his property the sawmill to one of the churches and Mr. Harry Richmond ran the sawmill.
He paid 1/2 the cost of a car for Dr. Goodfellow in 1931 (L.A. paid for other half).
Donated $5 to the organ fund 1931.
Postmaster at Demuth from June 1, 1917 to February 22, 1921 and from June 27, 1922 to 27-6-22 to March 31, 1924
He was the Superintendent of a gold mine in Rossland.
Later, he was the superintendent of the B.C. & Spokane Railway at Grand Forks. Then took contract to supply tires for Kettle Valley Railway.
Opened mill at Melfort, 35 miles east of Princeton. This mill was destroyed by fire (incendiary?) during the war years.
He built a second mill at Altamont, 28 miles from Penticton, 1918. Present mill at Belfort 5 miles east of . Princeton. (Employs 30 men) (date?).
