William Eckersley was born in Blackrod, England, on August 2, 1897. He married Elizabeth Alstead in Fernie, BC, on October 2, 1920. At the time of his marriage, he was a miner living in Cedar Valley and Elizabeth (Betty) was living at Coal Creek. He died in Vancouver on November 15, 1971.
Betty had a stroke in October, 1974. She died on November 17, 1993 in Princeton, BC.
William Eckersley came to Nine-Mile in 1930 and the family joined him in 1932. He was one of the first trustees of the Nine Mile School, built in 1932. The Nine-Mile community was dependent on the Blue Flame Colliery, the school-house built on the mine townsite. The mine closed down in 1937 and the Eckersley family moved into Princeton.
