Ekkel, George L./T. (Dutch/Dutchie)
On April 9, 1942, George “Dutch” Ekkel was awaiting call for service in the Netherlands Army. He left Princeton for Europe in May 1942 and arrived at the Princess Julianna Barracks, Stratford, ON, in June 1942.
Ekkel worked at the Bromley Vale Mine and the Princeton-Tulameen Coal Mine and, prior to enlisting, at the Lynn Valley Mine.
Private Ekkel was enrolled in the Elk’s Smoke Fund in October 1942. By December 1943, he had been promoted and was now a Corporal.
