Dominika Taschuk was born on July 2, 1905 Strilesky Cut, Bukovina, Austria. She met John Gabriel in Vancouver, BC, and they married on March 30, 1939 in Princeton. She died on August 8, 1997 in Abbotsford, BC.
She moved to Princeton in 1937, lived with the Gray family, and worked in the Traveller’s Cafe in Princeton.
After they bought “Gray’s Bakery” (1932? – 1962) from Ernie Gray in June 1947, they ran the bakery as the “Home Bakery” until June 1962 when John Gabriel retired. (Side note: Princeton had a “Home Bakery” from 1917-1921?, operated by Mrs. C. Griffin). Their son, William (Bill) Gabriel took the Gabriel family bakery over in 1962.
Doris was a member of then Princeton Business and Professional Women’s Club. She spoke five language, including Russian. She was also a member of St. Paul’s Church, Dorcas Circle, Grandmother’s Quilting Club, and Vermilion Rebekah Lodge.
Both John and Doris were members of the Princeton Fish and Game Club and the Marksmen Rod and Gun Club.
