Born in 1896, Sam Geary was the son of Samuel E. Gearing and Maggie J. ( ) Geary.
The Geary family came to Canada in 1916. They were engaged in cattle ranching in the Chilcotin area and when they moved to Keremeos, Samuel E. Geary moved in to sheep farming.
Sam Gearing was a bull-rider and horseman. In 1917, he won 2nd place in the Dominion Day celebrations relay race in Princeton. Ben Geary, Frank Garrison, Art Storey, Walter Hensell, Wayne Sellers and Sam Geary organized the Stampede Wild West in Princeton on October 2, 1921 at the Princeton Race Track.
The Geary brothers, Sam and Ben, were also involved in sheep farming. In June 1921, they herded upwards of 1000 sheep through Princeton, transferring the animals from ranges in Keremeos and Penticton to the Hope Summit for the summer months.
In June 1924, Sam Geary left for the south on the Great Northern train. He was planning to join his brother, Ben, at Bend, Montana.
Sam Geary appears in the 1940 US Census as a sheep shearer in Oregon.
