Gillespie, Frederic Mendell
Alice Ethel (McLean) Gillespie
Frederic Gillespie was born in Brooklyn, New York, around 1871. He married Alice Ethel McLean on December 10, 1909. She was the eldest daughter of William A. McLean. At the time of their marriage, both were living in Hedley, BC, and he was working as the postmaster.
He was elected secretary of the Hedley Hospital Ball committee in 1905.
He was the postmaster at Hedley from May 1, 1903 – March 1, 1918. He enjoyed billiards, competitive shooting with the Hedley Rifle Association, was deputy mining recorder (1906), a member of the executive committee of the Hedley Liberal Association (1906).
He owned claims in the Shamrock Group (1907).
On October 2, 1907, he took an extended trip to Toronto, New York and Europe, returning to Hedley in May 1908.
He took over John Love’s drugstore in Hedley in January 1910.
