A tragic accident resulted fatally to a well-known prospector, while prospecting for coal about 2 miles from Otter Flat along with John P. Cunningham and J.A. Fitzsimmons. A large limb of tree came crashing down upon him. This happened Sunday night, Sept. 22nd. When morning broke his friends carried him to the Otter Flat Hotel and Drs. Whillans and McPaail came and they amputated the right foot. However Gunderson had ribs driven into the lungs and he died. Interment Granite Creek.
