Born in Rosedale, BC on February 12, 1916 to Walter Harris Lawrence who was born in Peritsa, Montana, U.S.A, on August 13, 1895, served in WWI and died in Victoria on August 11, 1951, and May Annie Martin who was born in Chilliwack, B.C. on October 7, 1894 and died in Summerland in 1975.
Bert moved to Princeton with his family when he was 12 years old and spent most of his life here. He married Grace Powell. In 1942, he joined the Royal Canadian Navy Volunteer Reserve. They had four children: Darnella Ann, Jeraldine June, Albert Grant Jr., and Duane Powis. Joined IOOF #52 Lodge Oct. 22, 1945. He bought a trucking business from Oscar Kolbo and after a few years sold out and worked for the Department of Highways, operating equipment. In 1952 Copper Mountain reopened and he acquired two power shovels for loading ore into haulage trucks. In 1960 he took the machine to Hope and went logging. Bert passed away peacefully at the age of 96 1/2 at Princeton Hospital. Other photos in POV.
