George Dexter “Dexter” Lewers was born on July 15, 1909, in Vancouver, BC. He married Myrtle Garrison on February 20, 1941, in Princeton, BC. He died on April 25, 1959, at Vernon Jubilee Hospital.
The Princeton Star “Princeton Paragraphs” of August 13, 1931, notes that Lewers was living in Kelowna, but he was playing basketball for the Princeton team in December 1931. He was on the Kelowna basketball team in February and March 1933.
He visited Princeton in July 1940 and again in October 1940. Myrtle Garrison’s parents announced their upcoming marriage in January 1941.
He enlisted at some point before December 1942 when The Similkameen Star reported that he was in Princeton on leave during the Christmas season. He served in the Royal Canadian Airforce (Canadian Scottish) as a both a corporal and a sergeant. He was on leave in Princeton again March 1943, June 1944, August 1944, and February 1946.
His daughter, Beverley Ann Lewers was born in Princeton on April 24, 1944.
The Similkameen Star (March 15, 1945), noted that Corporal G.D. Lewers was newly subscribed to the Elk’s Smoke Fund.
In February 1946, Lewers returned to Princeton “after crossing from Europe on the Queen Elizabeth.” He expected to move to Kelowna but by June 1946, the family was settled in Vernon, BC.
At the time of his death in 1959, Lewers was an appliance salesman and the couple had been living in Vernon for thirteen years.
