Mandich, Mike
Mike Mandich came to Princeton in 1949.
His father, ( ) Mandich came to Canada in 1923 (?), first living in Ontario. Just before the war started, he sent for his wife Anne in Czechoslovakia but she did not come over. In 1949, Mike’s father was working at Copper Mountain in the gang supervised by “Pomp” Heap (Maxwell Orlando Heap).
Mike had served his apprenticeship as a barber but was conscripted into a German labour gang during the war and was sent to Munich. After the war was finished he met an American who advised him to contact his father, offering to do it on his behalf.
A few months later Mike heard from his father and came to Princeton to join him. Anne joined her husband Mike here later.
