Nellie Simpson was born on April 19, 1878, in Garfield, Washington, USA. She married Samuel Manring. She died on September 15, 1965, at the Princeton General Hospital.
Nellie came to the Osprey Lake area in 1925, with her husband, Sam, and their sons, Jord and William, and their daughter-in-law, Pearl.
The family had previously been engaged in ranching in the state of Washington.
They purchased the Clyde Hales ranch and in 1927, were living in the Tom and Kate Harvey home, above Chain Lake.
According to Clare (Sellers) Eaton, in Princeton Our Valley, Sam and Nellie had a place “two miles up a jeep road above the Gold brothers.” They had a fox farm and in 1944, they moved to Allenby, returning to Five Mile in 1949.
In 1943, Nellie Manring, Mrs. Grochuk, Mrs. J.J. Banks and Mrs. C.B. Hastings – “the ladies of Jellicoe” – donated a quilt to be raffled by the Princeton Branch of the Canadian Red Cross.
