Miller, Evelyn Louise (Hyatt)
William Miller II
__ __ __Jean Evelyn, William Hyatt III, Margaret May, Wilfred Laurier, Edna Louise, Robert Elwood
Evelyn was born on February 15th, 1890 in Pultenay, New York into a family of physicians and teachers, and became a teacher herself after graduating from Keuka College and Buffalo Art School in New York State. Her family owned a vineyard in the Finger Lakes District of N.Y.S. It has been stated that one of her ancestors arrived here on the Mayflower. She moved with her family to a community north of Prince Albert, Saskatchewan; called Paddockwood where she taught in a one room school. While living there, she was to meet William Stewart II Miller, whom she married
in 1914. In 1919 they along with their first four children, Jean, Bill, May and Wilfred came to Princeton from the Boundary Country. The following year their son, Wilfred passed away after the family had moved to Copper Mountain. In 1920 their daughter, Louise, was born. It’s believed that she was the first baby born at Copper Mountain. After moving to Allenby in 1920, they had one more son Robert (Bob) in 1926 and one more, daughter, Elizabeth (Beth) in 1935. Her interests were first and foremost her family, reading to them each evening and ensuring they became educated. She was a quiet, gentle person who gave up many things to be a wonderful mother, wife and grandmother. She was extremely well educated for her time and knew five languages. She was the type of individual that gave continuously to others without thinking of herself. Evelyn Miller was a wonderful artist and lover of nature. Evelyn Louise Miller passed away on April 2nd, 1965. After her passing, a lovely solid brass cross was donated “In her Memory” to St. Paul’s United Church, where it remained until 1998, when someone broke in and stole many of the churches treasures. William and Evelyn Miller now rest in the Masonic section of Princeton Cemetery.
