Valley Spotlight October 10, 1950 Herded cattle over the Dewdney Trail from 1898 – 1900, bringing them to the slaughterhouse that Pat Burns had erected in the valley that now comprises the lower end of Rossland. Over the rough hewn trail, they made an average of 15-20 miles per day. They collected $35 a head; meat wasnt valued by the pound.// Joe’s father, F.X. Richter was the second white man to enter the Sim. Valley. Xavier Richter herded the cattle from Keremeos to Hope before 1900. Joe is now 70 years old and living in Rossland (1978) On Old Ingram Ranch on Kettle River (Hedley 1910)
