Samuel Dickson Sandes II was born in Kilcully, County Cork, Ireland on September 2, 1865.
He was educated at the Albert Middle Class College in Framlingham, Suffolk, (now Framlingham College) .
He emigrated to British Columbia and worked as a draughtsman in the Copper Mountain Mine.
Samuel married Rose Isabella Allison (The daughter of John Fall Allison and Susan Louisa (Moir) Allison) on May 14, 1898, in Victoria, BC. they had 2 children together, Samuel Dickson Sandes III and Beatrice Sandes.
John Fall Allison abandoned the 320 acres, which is now the townsite of Princeton, in favour of his son-in-law, Samuel Sandes. The first survey of the land for townsite purposes was made by Mr. Sandes in 1895, when a few lots were laid off and sold.
In the spring of 1898 Samuel sold off the whole townsite to the Vermilion Forks Mining & Development Co.
After the death of Rose, Samuel returned to England, left his son with his family at the Marlesford Rectory and emigrated to Australia and worked as an engineer at The Observatory, Wickham Terrace, Brisbane.
He remarried to Beatrice Francis Elsie Harris (1882-1960) on January 10, 1912 in Queensland, Australia.
In 1937 he was working at the Day Dawn Mine, Wau, Papua New Guinea – they had a Gold Rush there in 1926.
Samuel died on November 10, 1938, in Sydney, Australia.
