Bought Coalmont Hotel 1980
Gerry and Diana Slobod left the big city in 1979 and made Coalmont, BC there home. They bought the Coalmont Hotel and for the next five years they lived, worked, played, loved, laughed, cried, and most importantly, sang their hearts out almost every party weekend in the Coalmont bar. There children and friends all pitched in at one point or the other over those years and according to Gerry it was an unforgettable experience. The whole experience had a big impact on their lives, and in Gerry’s words, there are dozens of stories still untold about the goings on in the Coalmont Hotel!

In 1979 my wife Diana and myself made a decision to leave the big city and plant ourselves in the town of Coalmont B.C. For the next five years we lived, we worked, we played, we loved, we laughed, we cried, and we sang our hearts out I almost every party weekend in the Coalmont bar. Our children and our friends all pitched in at one point or the other over the next five years and it was an unforgettable experience. Some great people there. Happy that we did it. There is a lot of history in that area and I spent many hours in the BC archives Learning about it. The whole experience had a big impact on our lives. There are dozens of stories still untold about the goings on in the Coalmont Hotel.

Hi Gerry, we love getting more details to fill out our areas history, thanks for contributing. And we’d love to hear more of those untold stories!

Hi Neal. I am going through the many albums of photos I took over that five year period. I will share as many as I can over the next few weeks or months depending on my schedule. As for the untold stories? Many of the folks who drank and ate at the hotel are still around today so I can only go so far in my story telling. Having said that there are a few good ones I can still talk about without offending anyone.

Sounds great! So glad people are taking to time to help document and fill out the history of our great little communities. It’s exactly what we were hoping for when we were putting this site together.
