Wright, James Macnish
M. L. Whillan (married December 31, 1904)
James Wright was born at Wright’s Corners (now Algonquin), Ontario in 1854. He married Mary Louise Whillans (1878-1959). According to the City of Edmonton Archives, in 1880 James and a partner, brought a hand press by ox cart from Winnipeg to Edmonton, N.W.T. He published “The Bulletin” the first newspaper in Edmonton. Later he went to Vancouver where he printed “The Vancouver Weekly Herald” newspaper. In the spring of 1888, James was one of the founding members of the Vancouver Typographical Union. He was printer and second editor of the Similkameen Star, the first newspaper in Princeton. He took over on May 20, 1908 (or 1903?). He retired and Col. R. T. Lowrey took over the Similkameen Star on July 10, 1914. James died on November 7, 1916 and is interred in the Princeton Cemetery.
