Zaharoff, William
Spouse(s): Unknown
William Zaharoff was born around 1883 in Russia. He died in Hedley on May 13, 1942.
It is possible (but not proven) that William Zaharoff was the father of Victor (and Bill) Zaharoff. William Zaharoff and family went to Hedley around 1921 and William was employed at the Hedley Gold Company for four years before his death in 1925, with only a brief time spent at Allenby. The Zaharoff family was living in Hedley in 1924.
On April 12, 1925, the Princeton Star reported that “the Company’s house on the bench, occupied by Wm. Zaharoff, electrician, and family was completely destroyed by fire.”
Not long after, on May 13, 1925, William Zaharoff died at Nickel Plate Mine. He was the electrician for the Hedley Gold Company and, while connecting a transformer to furnish power to operate a diamond drill on the Sunnyside mineral claim, he was electrocuted. His body was shipped to New Westminster where he had a sister. He left behind a wife and four young children.
