Similkameen football team on porch
According to the Similkameen Star newspaper, between 1900 and 1902 the Similkameen area held annual football games on Dominion Day at Keremeos (now Canada Day, July 1st). The local team was called the “Giants” and later, the “Tigers”. They played the Keremeos team when the two towns could both raise a team and got together to play Fairview. By 1903, Princeton started it’s own tradition of a Dominion Day celebration and no longer included football. The 1902 team is identified as: A.E. Lewis (goal keeper), C. Revely and F. Barrow (full backs), C. Schisler, C.P. Seale and C. Snowden (half backs), W. Murray, F. Revely, H. Duncan and J.C. McIntosh (forwards). Note that the man seated second left is holding a copy of the Similkameen Star newspaper. __This photo is also on www.oldphotos.ca (PRI 054) which suggests that the man seated far right is Bill Knight, standing far right is Charlie Day, man with dog is Luke Gibson, seated behind him is Sam Gibson.
